The book of Esther is set 100 years after the Babylonian exile. Not all Jews returned to the land of Israel. Some remained in Persia. Esther is the story of the Jews who remained.
The book of Esther is the only book in the Bible that doesn’t mention God. The book however invites us to look for God at work as the story unfolds.
